KidScreen Report

How to know if your child uses the phone late at night

Updated · 3 min read

Short answer

Look at screen time by hour. On the child's phone, Digital Wellbeing shows the apps used each day, and its Bedtime mode can dim the screen at night. KidScreen Report adds up the phone's use between 10 pm and 6 am and puts it in the weekly WhatsApp report, and the parent's dashboard shows a chart of every hour of the day.

Why late-night use matters

Late-night phone use often means less sleep, and it is easy to miss because it happens after everyone is in bed. A weekly number makes it visible without checking the phone each night.

What the report counts as late night

KidScreen Report counts the time the phone was in use between 10 pm and 6 am, India time, and shows the week's total in every Sunday report. On the dashboard, the hour-by-hour chart shows exactly when the phone is used, and the longest stretch shows the longest session of back-to-back use and when it started.

What to do with the number

Talk about it with your child rather than reacting to a single night. Agree on a time the phone goes on charge outside the bedroom, and compare the next weeks' reports. If you want the phone to enforce a bedtime, Digital Wellbeing's Bedtime mode on the child's phone or Google Family Link can do that; KidScreen Report only reports.

Questions

Can I see exactly which apps were used at night?

+

The weekly report shows the late-night total and the top apps for the week. The dashboard shows the hours of the day the phone was used. KidScreen Report never reads what is inside an app.

Does it block the phone at night?

+

No. KidScreen Report only reports. To limit night use, use Bedtime mode in Digital Wellbeing on the child's phone, or Google Family Link.
